Sacrifice

Picasso: Weeping Women

Sacrifice

Sacrifice tears un-forgivingly at your loss,
Shrouded in despairing blue,
Drowning hope in a never ending torrent but yet, bestowing a breach of air

~Nahal Ataei

Sacrifice is two faced

In The Alchemist, Santiago learns that no matter how hard sacrifice tears at  you, you must not be week or grieve the past, but move forward and think about the future. In the story, Coelho shows how hard and unfair sacrifice is. When you have found something that you think is the right, and you feel a satisfaction, it is extremely hard to let it go and take a risk to move forward. As Santiago stares in The Alchemist, "Men dream more about coming home than leaving." This shows that Santiago had found what he wanted with Fatima and he was happy were he was but, he still has a journey to complete. In the end he decided to continue on with his journey, and by doing so he managed to achieve his destiny. So, the message that Coehlo is trying to send is that no matter how hard and remorsless sacrifice may be, takeing the risk and beeing strong and determined will have a rewarding outcome.Coelho made sacrifice signifacant by connecting it to a real life experience. He incorporated sacrifice as a part of Santiagos journey, and that it is something everyone has to face and move forward form. If we are able to face sacrifice in our lifes and advance from it hopeing for the best, we will be able to conquer all obstacles and there will be no limits for us in life.
